About Percent Yield
In synthetic chemistry, the percent yield is a measure of the efficiency of a chemical reaction. It tells you what percentage of the theoretical amount of product was actually isolated.
% Yield = (Actual Yield / Theoretical Yield) × 100
Yields over 100% indicate an error, typically incomplete drying of the product (residual solvent) or impurities.
